The shutdown was late on 29 September in Pacific time, or 30 September in many other time zones. That explains why the date varies between reports. Nintendo's current FAQ is explicit about the outcome: the game itself cannot be played.
What happened to rubies and the Gold Pass
Nintendo stopped selling rubies and accepting new Gold Pass subscriptions in July. Before closure, previously held rubies could be spent in the Spotlight Shop, the Mii Racing Suit Shop and Coin Rush. Those shops are no longer available because service has ended; an unspent balance is not a usable game currency now.
The Gold Pass benefits that Nintendo made free during the final weeks also ended with service. The earlier notices distinguished between players who were subscribed when renewals stopped and those who were not, but that distinction no longer changes what a player can access today.
There is no announced offline replacement
Nintendo's FAQ says an offline version is not scheduled for release. The remaining stats and rankings windows should not be mistaken for a way to keep racing after closure. Nintendo has not announced a playable conversion in the official pages linked below.
Questions the notices leave open
The end-of-service pages we reviewed did not state a general refund policy for previous purchases. That absence does not prove that a particular player is or is not entitled to a refund. For an account-specific answer, contact Nintendo or the store that processed the purchase.

The historical ruby and Gold Pass details below reflect Nintendo's notices as read on 13 August 2026; some linked FAQ pages now require sign-in, so the post-closure update relies on the public closure FAQ. We did not install the game, purchase anything or verify account-specific refunds.
